Jerry's House

Jerry Dandridge's dilapidated home

Style and Layout[]

The Dandridge residence is in the contemporary Victorian style. It has four floors, including the basement and a connecting balcony.

The house itself is in a state of disarray when Jerry moves in on Oak Street. Considered to be an eye sore by Charley's mother Judy Brewster, it has dead vines engulfing it's side, trellis, and balcony. It also has many trees and bushes growing around it.

Its unknown how many rooms the Dandrige residence's layout has, but the final film gives us seven areas that are clearly visible. These include:

  • The Foyer
  • The Living Room
  • Jerry's Bedroom (viewed from Charley's room)
  • Jerry's Second Bedroom (where Amy is bitten)
  • The Basement
  • The Grand Stair-case
  • Upstairs hallway

Vampire Adjustments[]

When moving in Jerry has his "carpenter" Billy Cole make repairs and adjustments for Jerry's undead comfort. These adjustment include:

  • Moving Jerry's coffins into the basement
  • Blacking out the basement windows
  • Moving in and unpacking Jerry's belongings.

Potential personal adjustments made by Jerry include:

  • On demand fog
  • Self opening doors.

Behind The Scenes[]

The creation of the house came about at "Laird International Studios, where production designer John De Cuir, Jr, created the interiors and exteriors of the Brewster and Dandridge houses." There was also duplicates of the houses "constructed at the Disney Studio due to the space needed for crane shots."[1]

The neighborhood the house resides in is also only partially built, relying on set extension using the special effect technique of Matte Paintings [2]

The Dandrige house exterior built on the Disney Studio lot was actually used again prominently in the Disney Sunday movie "Mr.Boogedy" (1986)[3]
